Public Inquiry · Penalty points scandal: Only one certainty; nobody will be held to account: "And because Ireland is an intrinsically corrupt state we can say with absolute certainty, and well before any investigation reaches a conclusion, that nobody will be charged, nobody will be held accountable.

We are already seeing the standard state response to such scandals.

But while the UN advocates for frameworks through which people, institutions, and nations are held accountable under laws that meet human rights standards, a new study has found that it needs to do more to uphold the rule of law effectively within the organization itself.

A new report by the Government Accountability Project (GAP), a leading whistleblower protection organization, analyzed the impact of the UN internal justice system on accountability practices in the UN’s peacekeeping missions. The study identified fundamental shortcomings in the UN’s accountability mechanisms, based on a review of two years of judgments from the organization’s internal justice system and interviews with key UN personnel, attorneys, and whistleblowers from eight different peacekeeping missions."?

Calling all police officers on duty at Hillsborough on 15.04.1989 « Hillsborough: "There were a great many junior officers on duty that day that did a fantastic job, without senior supervision, to try and help those who were trapped and dying in the Leppings Lane terraces.

Recent documentaries, in the light of the Hillsborough Independent Panel, have seen PC’s come forward and tell their side of the story.

It seems that no matter what depths senior officers were willing to sink, that there are a great number of more junior officers who were, honest, who tried their best and who were horrified at the way their statements were amended to remove any criticism of the police.

I would be forever grateful, if one such hero of the day would step forward and help me tell the story about the real truth of Hillsborough?"

When he enquired he was told it was the body of somebody who had nobody to bury them, bound for a ‘paupers grave’. This meant burial in an unmarked piece of ‘poor ground’ between the other graves. Poor ground was also used to inter victims of famine and disease epidemics and these burials were done under cover of darkness.

I am unable, at present, to provide an open source access to it, so you will have to trust me on that particular issue. It’s not controversial anyway. Now, one argument made is that Judgment was given when the special position of the Catholic church was recognised constitutionally and, since it’s removal, the Judgment is no longer of such strength in terms of jurisprudence. However, the Supreme Court has held that that particular, now removed, provision of the Constitution had never any Constitutional effect. ECONOMIC RECESSION: SHOULD WHITE COLLAR CRIMINALS BE IMPRISONED? – Ben Jacob

ECONOMIC RECESSION: SHOULD WHITE COLLAR CRIMINALS BE IMPRISONED? – Ben Jacob: Several high- profile cases of white-collar crime have been in the news recently. Scandals on Wall Street, in the Irish banking system and amongst organizations, like FÁS, have dominated the front pages of newspapers and the schedules of radio programmes and TV chat shows. So what is it about white-collar crime that makes it so newsworthy in comparison to ordinary crime? Sometimes it is partly the sheer scale of operation, but more often than not it is to do with who is involved. People are completely shocked to hear that an affluent business man was involved in crime. This is also the reason that the populace becomes so irate. Why would one feel happy about paying taxes to drive a politician in a limo between two buildings in an airport? Why should the repoman come and reclaim your house when the bank manager has being embezzling funds for the good of his bulging pocket? These offending individuals have been entrusted with huge assets so if it transpires that they have abused their authority to further their own cause, the little guy who loses out won’t be too pleased.?
